Are You Really Protected? The Hidden Truth About Airbnb’s AirCover

As an Airbnb host, you probably assume that your property is fully protected under Airbnb’s AirCover.

But is that really the case? While AirCover offers some protection, it may not be enough to cover all the risks associated with hosting. In my latest video, I dive into the details of Airbnb’s insurance offering and why you might need to consider additional coverage.

Why Your Standard Homeowner’s Insurance Isn’t Enough

Many hosts believe their homeowner’s insurance will cover any issues that arise during a guest’s stay. Unfortunately, this isn’t true. Most homeowner policies don’t cover short-term rentals because hosting is considered a business activity.

This leaves you vulnerable to paying out of pocket if a guest damages your property or gets injured.

What Does Airbnb’s AirCover Actually Protect?

AirCover is a safety net provided by Airbnb that includes coverage for property damage, liability insurance, income loss due to guest-related damage, and deep cleaning protection. However, it’s important to know that AirCover has its limitations:

  • Property Damage: Covers up to $3 million but excludes high-value items, regular wear and tear, and damages like mold or pest issues.
  • Income Loss: Only compensates for income loss caused by guest-related damage—not for cancellations due to natural disasters or necessary maintenance.
  • Liability Coverage: Protects against guest injuries but might not apply if the injury is due to negligence on your part.
  • Acts of Nature: AirCover doesn’t protect against damage from natural disasters like floods or wildfires.

Should You Rely on AirCover Alone?

AirCover is a great start and provides basic protection for common scenarios. However, it’s not a comprehensive safety net. If you want full peace of mind, consider third-party insurance tailored specifically for short-term rental hosts.

These policies can cover the gaps left by AirCover, such as protection against natural disasters, squatters, or extended income loss.

Take Action: Ensure You’re Fully Covered

To make sure you’re truly protected, start by evaluating the specific risks associated with your property. Do you have high-value items or off-premise amenities like a dock or golf cart? If so, AirCover might not be enough. Explore specialized insurance options designed for short-term rental hosts to fill in those gaps.

In my video, I also provide links to some of the best third-party insurance providers for Airbnb hosts. It’s worth taking the time to research and find the coverage that fits your needs.
