I get this request on literally every booking lol. Here's how I think about it. If nobody is checking out that day (property was cleaned the night before), I just let them in whenever. Free. Costs me nothing and the guest thinks I'm amazing for it. Easy win. If someone IS checking out same day but the guest wants 1-2 hours early, I say "let me check with my cleaner and I'll confirm the day before." Usually works out fine if the previous guest leaves on time. For guaranteed early access (like 3+ hours), I charge $25-50 and pay my cleaner a rush fee. Guest pays through an Airbnb trip modification. If it's truly back-to-back and there's no way — just be honest. "We have a same-day turnover and our team needs until [time]. Here's a luggage storage option nearby." BounceApp is great for this. Late checkout I handle similarly. Free hour extension if nobody's coming that day, $30-50 fee for a few extra hours, or 50% nightly rate if they basically want a half day. One trick that's worked really well: set your check-in time at 4pm even when the property is ready by 3. Then you can "offer" free early check-in every time and look like a hero. Same property, same timing, but the guest perception is totally different. I have Hospitable auto-send a response to early/late requests: something like "depends on our schedule that day, I'll confirm the day before." Keeps it friendly without committing to anything.

Adding the luggage storage angle — this is a GAME CHANGER for check-in/checkout gaps: Instead of agonizing over early check-in, I installed a deck box with a combination lock on the porch. Guests can: - Drop luggage before check-in - Store bags after checkout I include in my pre-arrival message: "If you arrive before check-in time, there's a secure luggage storage box on the porch — code: [code]. Feel free to drop your bags and explore [City] until the property is ready!" **Cost:** $40 for a Rubbermaid deck box + $10 combination lock = $50 total **Impact:** Early check-in requests dropped 80% because guests just wanted to drop their bags — they didn't actually need the whole property early. Some hosts in urban areas partner with nearby cafes — "Mention you're staying at [Property] and get 10% off your coffee while you wait." The cafe loves the business, guests love the welcome, and you've turned a complaint into a perk.
