ALWAYS handle extensions through Airbnb's official alteration request. Here's why: 1. **You keep Airbnb's protection.** If they extend off-platform (cash, Venmo, etc.), AirCover doesn't apply for the extra nights. Any damage during the extension is on you. 2. **It protects your calendar.** The official alteration blocks the extra nights on your calendar across all platforms. No double-booking risk. 3. **Payment is guaranteed.** Airbnb collects payment upfront. Process: Ask the guest to send an alteration request through the app for the new checkout date. Or you can send them a "Special Offer" with the adjusted dates. **On pricing:** I offer a small discount (10-15%) for extensions because: - No additional cleaning cost (they're already there) - No turnover gap or vacancy risk - Happy guest = better review So if my rate is $150/night, I'd offer the extension at $130/night. Still profitable and the guest feels they're getting a deal.

One thing to watch out for: if the extension crosses into dates where you have premium pricing (weekend, event, holiday), make sure the alteration reflects the correct pricing for those dates, not a flat rate. I had a guest extend a Tuesday checkout to a Saturday checkout. I almost accepted at the weekday rate before realizing those Friday/Saturday nights were worth 2x. The alteration request should let you specify different rates per night.
