RemoteLock’s installation is comparatively more involved and typically requires compatible hardware purchased separately — appropriate for a professional setup, overkill for a single door.

August Home is a one-time hardware purchase — $229 for the lock, $79 for the keypad guests need to enter codes — with no ongoing subscription. For a single property, that’s straightforwardly cheaper than any subscription-based access-control platform.

RemoteLock charges roughly $10/door/month (Starter) or $15/door/month (Professional) on top of compatible hardware you already own or purchase separately. At 20+ doors, that recurring cost buys centralized management August simply doesn’t offer — but it’s real, ongoing spend a single-property host doesn’t need.

RemoteLock’s enterprise focus extends to integrations — API access for custom automations and connections to property management systems beyond a single OTA.

August Home’s PMS integration is limited to Airbnb, auto-generating time-restricted guest codes tied to reservation dates. Its own review notes that managing codes across multiple bookings or platforms requires manual work — a real limitation for hosts on Vrbo or Booking.com, or anyone using a PMS other than Airbnb directly.

August Home scored 9/10 on usability — a polished consumer app, straightforward setup, and integration with voice assistants most hosts already use.

RemoteLock scored 7/10; its own review notes setup complexity is higher than consumer smart locks, which tracks with its target audience of professional operators rather than individual hosts.
