Hospitable’s Essentials plan undercuts that at $0 for unlimited properties — the same channel sync, unified inbox and automated messaging Smoobu charges for, plus a guest portal and task management. The catch is direct booking sites: Hospitable’s Direct Lite/Basic/Premium tiers layer on top, whereas Smoobu bundles its own booking website builder into every plan from Growth up. If a direct booking site without a second subscription matters to you, run the numbers both ways.

Smoobu and Hospitable posted the exact same channel-sync score in our rubric — both kept calendars clean across Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com and Expedia/Agoda in testing, with zero double bookings. Smoobu’s advantage is regional: built in Germany, it has stronger native support for European-specific booking channels and payment methods that some US-built PMS platforms treat as an afterthought.

Hospitable’s sync is US/UK/AU-first, which shows in its channel roster and in the availability of its Direct Premium plan (limited to those three regions). For hosts operating in continental Europe, Smoobu’s regional depth is a real, if narrow, edge.

Hospitable automates the full guest journey — inquiry to post-stay review — with strong AI-assisted replies and minimal configuration; most hosts are hands-off within a day. Smoobu’s automation rules cover the basics (templated messages, task triggers) but require more manual setup, and its own review notes the rule engine feels more rigid than Hospitable’s event-based system.

If automated guest communication is your primary reason for buying a PMS, Hospitable is the stronger tool.

Every Smoobu plan above Starter includes a direct booking website with a booking widget and payment integration — no extra subscription. For hosts trying to reduce OTA commission dependency, that’s baked into the €29/month Growth tier.

Hospitable’s direct booking tools are genuinely capable — Lite, Basic and Premium tiers add a booking site, with Premium charging a 4% guest + 3% host fee — but they’re an additional decision on top of the core PMS plan, and Premium is only available in the US, UK and Australia.

Smoobu scored notably better on data portability in our testing — exports and reporting access that make it easier to move data to spreadsheets or third-party accounting tools if you ever switch platforms or just want your own records.

Hospitable’s export options are its most-cited gap — deeper accounting and reporting still lean on third-party tools, and owner statements aren’t part of the core product.

Neither platform will fight you. Smoobu and Hospitable both scored 9/10 for ease of use and 8/10 for support in our testing, with business-hours coverage on both sides and no meaningful reliability gap — neither missed a sync during our test bookings.
